    Description

    Release Date: 01 November 2010

From the producers of Band of Brothers, The Pacific tracks the real-life journeys of three U.S. Marines--Robert Leckie (James Badge Dale), Eugene Sledge (Joe Mazzello) and John Basilone (Jon Seda)--across the vast canvas of the Pacific Theatre during World War II. The extraordinary experiences of these men and their fellow Marines take them from the first clash with the Japanese in the haunted jungles of Guadalcanal, through the impenetrable rain forests of Cape Gloucester, across the blasted coral strongholds of Peleliu, up the black sand terraces of Iwo Jima, through the killing fields of Okinawa, to the triumphant, yet uneasy, return home after V-J Day.

    Great war film

My first box set of 'The Pacific' had a fault - it kept pixillating and then freezing on Disc 2. Sendit.com, as usual, were first rate - the box was returned (at no cost to me) and a replacement box sent. I haven't seen all of this new box set, but it is certainly not causing any problems with Disc 2. This is a very gritty and rather gory film about the war in the Pacific - a sort of Pacific version of 'Band of Brothers'. The battle scenes are awesome and give a very good impression of what it must have been like for those poor soldiers. I would have given it 5 stars, but for the fact that the first box set was faulty. A great buy and heartily recommended. One proviso - don't view it in 5.1 'Cinema Sound' if you have a wife. We are very close to a divorce!

    Proper Pacific!

An eye-bursting, ear-blowing feast of action. If you liked Band of Brothers then The Pacific is definitely one for you. With surround sound and Blu-ray quality detail, this series drags you into the scenery. Bullets whizzing past, explosions, the most cinematic experience you will have from any television series ever! A definite recommendation for everyone.

    Excellent depiction of horific reality

This series tells it hard and hitting and brings home the reality of what these guys went through in the Pacific. I also read the first book by Eugene Sledge, one of the main characters, and it is one fo the most, touching, and honest stories I have read of what really happened.
