Space: 1999 is a Gerry Anderson cult classic, as unmissable today as it was when first conceived in 1973. Starring husband and wife team, Martin Landau and Barbara Bain, Space 1999 revolves around the crew of Moonbase Alpha, where scientific experiments are conducted and space data gathered.
Disaster strikes and the Moon is blown out of the Earth's orbit by a huge explosion emanating from man-made nuclear waste pits, causing it to drift endlessly through the void of space where the real adventures begin.

Re-polished classic
Gerry Anderson's 1975 sci-fi series Space 1999 finally gets the hi-definition quality remastering it deserves. The 24 episodes of the superior first season have been taken and reassembled from the original camera negatives. Every care has been taken to exceed or at least reproduce the quality of the original 35mm film stock, whilst reducing grain without digital smearing or distortion. The overal effect of all the work and care has been to produce a near perfect visual product and package. If there is a slight critism it is that the extra's are all in standard definition and that there is a shortage of both commentaries and deleted scenes. It's particularly annoying in that one of the documentaries there is mention of a 2 hour version of the pilot and it would of been nice to see it even in normal definition. But perhaps I am expecting too much. The stories themselves though, being nearly forty years old have stood well to the increasing pace of story telling. So overal I'd recommend this box set to any fan of British sci-fi.
