Academy Award-winners Gregory Peck (1962, Best Actor, To Kill A Mockingbird), David Niven (1958, Best Actor, Separate Tables), and Anthony Quinn (1952, Best Supporting Actor, Viva Zapata!; 1956, Lust For Life) star as a team of Allied military specialists recruited for a dangerous but imperative mission: to infiltrate a Nazi-occupied fortress and disable two long-range field guns so that 2,000 trapped British soldiers may be rescued. Faced with an unforgiving sea voyage, hazardous terrain, and the possibility of a traitor among them, the team must overcome the impossible without losing their own lives. Adapted by screenwriter Carl Foreman from Alistair MacLean’s best-selling novel, The Guns Of Navarone was nominated for seven Oscars, including Best Picture, and won for Best Special Effects (1961).

    Guns of Navarone

An excellent movie though not based on a real story. It'sa good refelction of cold human handling in the insanity of a war, bringhtness of handling at the very momnent, but a fale of giving a deep suppressed young woman not a second chance, which could have been done with a bit of tact, constant control, and the waiting punishment of a bullet if she should do wrong again. Even that is posible in a war if you can think and feel straight.

    A Classic

As a child I was brought up on movies like this, watching all the classics on TV like The Great Escape and Bridge Over The River Kwai. The Guns Of Navarone watches like a real event in history, having been written in such a convincing way and with such an outstanding cast of British and American, making it such a gem. The Blu-ray transfer is pretty good considering the age of the movie. The follow-up Force 10, even though having a great cast, was not a touch on this one. Well worth the purchase.
