    Description

    Release Date: 28 February 2005

In 1970, a train journeyed across Canada carrying some of the greatest rock bands of the time (Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, The Band, Buddy Guy and Others) giving free concerts when and where they stopped. The train was called The Festival Express.

Wholly unsupervised, these famous musicians indulged in various vices, joined in on heavily psychedelic conversations and jamming session that have to be seen - and heard - to be believed. Nicknamed "The Million Dollar Bash" by Rolling Stone magazine, Festival Express was the party to end all parties.

The existence of the footage from this once-in-a-lifetime event was rumoured, but was not actually discovered until 1994, in amazingly pristine condition with excellent sound quality and photography. Two-time Grammy winning director Bob Smeaton (The Beatles Anthology, Hendrix: Band Of Gypsies) brings you the full backstage pass, providing a unique insight into the politics and counter-culture of the era and what may just have been the last great rock 'n' roll ride.
