    Description

    Release Date: 06 February 2012

Freddie Hubbard was a legendary American jazz trumpeter who, from 1958 to 2008, played a major part in influencing modern jazz and bebop perspectives. Including three of his most revered albums for Columbia Records, this essential collection highlights just how instrumental Hubbard really was within his respective genre.

    Freddie Hubbard

'High Energy' (1974) was an album produced during his very commercial period. Joined by a small orchestra and a string section, Hubbard's quintet gracefully manoeuvres through six fantastic sections to create one of his finest releases to date. Featuring performances by Joe Sample, George Cables, Junior Cook, Emie Watts, Pete Christlieb, and Ian Underwood.

'Liquid Love' (1975) is the musician's second release through Columbia Records. This funky, hard bop album typifies Hubbard's range of talents with its soulful rhythms and artistic arrangements. Featured artists include Maurice Green, Mike Levy, Johnny Watson, Ray Parker, Jr., and George Cables, amongst others.

'Windjammer' (1976) sees Hubbard joined by a string section, five vocalists and an orchestra, in what is a fun, feel-good, and groovy release. Featuring the likes of Jon Faddis, Michael Brecker, Bob James, George Cables, Steve Khan, and Eric Gale, this album is a smooth and mellow affair whilst still remaining rich in quality.

These three historic albums mark a pivotal time in Hubbard's musical evolvement and would be a worthy addition to the record collection of any jazz enthusiast. (John Minard)
