Formed in 1987, Green Day are arguably one of the most successful punk rock bands of all time, selling over sixty million albums, winning multiple Grammy Awards, and having gained widespread critical acclaim on the back of albums such as "Dookie", "Warning", and "American Idiot". In addition to this Green Day have developed a reputation for intense live performances, something which stretches back beyond their performances at Lollapalooza and Woodstock in the mid-nineties, to their indie days in the late eighties from which they developed a considerable grass roots following.
Their fifth official live album "Awesome as ****" is the result of a comprehensive recording process undertaken by the band on their recent "21st Century Breakdown" world tour. It was from these recordings which band-members Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tre Cool constructed this live album with the aim of giving their fans the strongest recording possible. The diverse track listing includes renditions of everything from early classics such as "Geek Stink Breath" and "Burnout" to more contemporary material like "Holiday", "East Jesus Nowhere", and "American Idiot". Also included within this package is a 16 track Blu-Ray that features an energetic concert filmed in Tokyo from the same tour as the rest of the material (with no content overlap between it and the CD).
Certainly their best live album in years, and arguably their best yet, "Awesome as ****" is a must have recording for the Green Day fans who are looking for an experience which shows the band doing justice to their reputation for being purveyors of finely crafted stadium rock who are able to put on a show like no one else.
