Janis Ian is a songwriter, singer, musician, columnist, and author she first entered the folk music scene while still a teenager in the mid-sixties; she was most active musically in that decade and the 1970s, but she continued recording into the 21st century.

Best known for her signature song ‘At Seventeen’, which was released in 1975, Janis won a Grammy Award for the single, which sold over two million singles in the United States alone. Later in the decade she was selected to sing the main theme tune for the Jodie Foster film ‘Foxes’. ‘Fly Too High’, which was produced by electro disco genius 'Giorgio Moroder'who gave Janis her first UK hit in November 1979 which became an international hit. The record went to number 30 in the Billboard Hot Dance/Disco chart.

The “Best of Janis Ian” consists thirty-one tracks, including the two mentioned above along with several rarities, such as her first demo which she recorded as a 13 year old, a lo-fi version of ‘Hair of Spun Gold’, ‘Jesse’, which was a Top 30 hit for Roberta Flack, along with Sesame Street’s ‘Ginny the Flying Girl’. Also included in this package is a twelve-track DVD filmed during her peak period in 1979 in Japan and Australia.
