Giants, legends, greats - whatever you call the artists collected on this third 'Later' DVD - they all undeniably belong in popular music's top drawer. While 'Later' prides itself on surfing the moment and capturing the arrival of major new talent, the show also delights in making the past present again. When Al Green magically revisits one of his classic 70s hits, 'How Can You mend A Broken heart?', time doesn't so much rewind as stop. Often there's an added poignancy to watching artists like Solomon Burke or Steve Winwood taking repossession of songs that made them in their youth, songs from decades back that they reawaken before their eyes. The fascination of these performances is that they show the journey that an artist and a song can make together over time, journeys in which they can find new ways of understanding each other. Pop music and maturity don't always go very well together but watch Dusty or Willie or Leonard Cohen on this DVD and you'll fin yourself agreeing with Jools that sometimes talent - like fine wine - just gets better with age.
