Baritone saxophonist Leo Parker had made the rounds in the 1950s, most notably as a member of Billy Eckstine's band, but dropped from the scene until resurfacing in 1961 with ROLLIN' WITH LEO (he also released LET ME TELL YOU `BOUT IT in the same year, his only other date as a leader). Possessed of a rich but raw tone, Parker acquits himself admirably on this fairly straight ahead session of classic hard bop. The seven tracks here find the musicians stretching out in fiery style, with no shortage of take-no-prisoners swing driving their playing. "The Lion's Roar", "Jumpin' Leo", and the coolly grooving title cut are standouts.
