The words Nickelback and Dark Horse, the title of the Canadian quartet's fifth Roadrunner album, don't seem to belong in the same sentence.

A dark horse, after all, is a long-shot, the proverbial also-run that surprises when it wins. But Nickelback has been shooting long -- and winning -- since it rolled out of Alberta some 13 years ago. Yet the same ethic that makes Nickelback a multi-platinum, hit-making phenomenon whose last album, 2005's multi-platinum (UK double platinum) ‘All The Right Reasons’, one of the most successful of the century so far is why the band -- singer-guitarist Chad Kroeger, his brother and bassist Mike Kroeger, guitarist Ryan Peake and drummer Daniel Adair -- still feels like a perpetual dark horse.

Nickelback is well ahead of those odds, and it continues to pulverize them with ‘Dark Horse’, an 11-track survey of everything the group has done so well to this point. It marks the first time Nickelback has worked with an outside producer since ‘Silver Side Up’  in 2001, but considering that producer is Robert John "Mutt" Lange, he of AC/DC "Back in Black," Def Leppard "Pyromania" and "Hysteria" and Foreigner "4" fame, it's easy to understand why the group was willing to open up the inner sanctum again. Having already birthed 2 hit singles in "If Today Was Your Last Day" and ‘Gotta Be Somebody’, the latest single will evoke memories of mega-hit ‘Rockstar’, as a quirky out-of-character album closer.  "This Afternoon," has an acoustic summery, rootsy flavor, along with some downright country-style guitar licks that represent a refreshing departure from the Nickelback norm. "It's a big-time part of our background," bassist Mike Kroeger notes, "that whole laid-back, bar-room kind of feel.  Where we grew up everybody listened to country.  I would say that song's our 'Friends In Low Places,' y'know?"

With ‘Dark Horse’ already debuting in the UK Top 5 and shifting over 300,000 copies (Platinum) to date, and armed with a joyously funny video, is there a more perfect summer hit than ‘This Afternoon’?

This Special Edition includes a bonus DVD that brings together all 6 promo videos from the album, including the previously unseen ‘Never Gonna Be Alone’. Plus there’s the eye-candy documentary on the ‘Making Of ‘This Afternoon’ video plus 3 live tracks from Japan
