Einstein On The Beach could easily be one of your dreams, or the worst of all your nightmares, flooding four orchestral acts with utter despair and lonely repetition. The opera was written in the summer and fall of 1975 and is five hours in length making this Phillip Glass’s longest of his opera scores. Spoken word and short poetry is the main motive within the opera, building to an emotional apex within the second act that drags you into a cold downward spiral of catatonia only to bring you back with the intricate violins that sear through the waves of contempt.

Philip Glass has become one of the most controversial composers of the modern age with a genius approach to the simplicity of an orchestra. His composition provides a unique vision each time you hear it, urging the audience to interpret the story for themselves. Glass’s music will only guide you in this epic monument to a pure artistic monolith of 20th century classical composition. JS
