Queen's fifth studio album (and first to be entirely self produced) "A Day at the Races" was released in 1976 reaching number one in the UK and charting internationally. Furthermore alongside it's immediate predecessor "A Night at the Opera", it is widely considered to be a defining record of the seventies and one of the greatest rock albums of all time.
The album opens to the driving riffs of "Tie Your Mother Down" and this strong start is continued throughout the rest of the album through a host of brilliant tracks that include the light hearted yet passionate "Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy", and iconic "Somebody To Love", which itself serves as a remarkable illustration of Freddie Mercury's vocal range. Presented in a newly remastered format the album is an essential addition to the musical library of both long time fans and curious newcomers. (Adam Bibby)
