Queen's second studio album "Queen II" was released in early 1974 and provides a fascinating insight into the band's early history particularly when contrasted against their later albums as it's clear that this album is far more influenced by the progressive style of rock with fantastical imagery and elaborate arrangements illustrated in tracks like "Ogre Battle", "The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke" and of course the big hit from the album with great riffs and spectacularly obtuse lyrics, "Seven Seas of Rhye". Despite being less well known than the bands later work it should not be neglected on account of this because there is plenty that will reward the inquiring listener if they are just willing to give it a chance.
