Paper Trail is widely considered a modern day classic in the music industry, one of the many reasons why is that T.I. decided to take the approach of writing his lyrics down on paper (hence the title), something he hadn't done since his critically acclaimed debut 'I'm Serious'.
T.I. began writing for Paper Trail as he was awaiting trial for weapons charges, a subject highlighted on the album itself. The Atlanta rapper can also be heard expressing his feelings of fear and anger during different stages and by the first listen you really get a feel of the emotions he was going through at the time.
From the '56 Bars' intro right through to the final track of 'Dead and Gone', it is clear that T.I. was on a mission, displaying types of lyricism that has really made the likes of Jay-Z, Nas, Lupe Fiasco and even fellow southern rappers Outkast stand up and take note.
Along with having an outstanding concept, Paper Trail also has a star studded line-up of guests who contributed including Ludacris, Kanye West, Justin Timberlake, Swizz Beatz and Rihanna and it has definitely showed the world that T.I. is here for the long haul. (Trevor Pratt)
