    Description

    Release Date: 24 April 2006

Simien is one of Zydeco's Young Turks, but on this spectacular album he's more like Mr. Versatile. For example, on slower tracks like "The Maker" and "Will I Ever Learn", the ghost of Sam Cooke seems to hover over the music. "Come Back Home", on the other hand, could be Curtis Mayfield doing reggae, and the exquisite title song is an early '70s soul ballad a la WHAT'S GOING ON-era Marvin Gaye. Simien also demonstrates good taste in guest stars, with the Meters backing him on a terrific, funky cover of King Floyd's "Groove Me". And it's pretty hard to resist his "Zydeco Boogaloo", a relentlessly propulsive instrumental that manages a surprise quote from the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back". Highly recommended.
