    Description

    Release Date: 27 February 2012

"Roses" is the heavily anticipated double disc sixth studio album by the iconic Irish rock band The Cranberries. This record is the follow up to their fifth studio album "Wake Up And Smell The Coffee", which was released in 2001. This album is their first studio release in over a decade, and follows their six year hiatus and reunion.

The first disc is the album itself, which showcases The Cranberries' musical talent at its best. Beautiful and strong guitar melodies overlap and harmonise with impressive, technical drums and brilliant bass lines. These well instrumentalised tunes blend in perfectly with lead singer Dolores O'Riordan's distinctive and somehow haunting vocals, emphasising the well written lyrics.

Featured on the album is the lead single "Show Me The Way", a song that quietly builds in to a storming chorus, with O'Riordan's singing sounding almost ethereal across the melodic backdrop of heavy guitar. Also featured on the album is the single "Tomorrow", an upbeat, catchy tune with plenty of overlayered guitar with uptempo chord progressions and riffs.

This album also includes a second disc, a DVD, which captures The Cranberries performing a full live set in Madrid in 2010. Some of their most well known and popular songs are featured on this disc, such as their legendary chart smashing hit "Zombie", as well as "Linger" and many more.

Despite making fans wait over a decade for this record, "Roses" proves that it was more than worth the wait, showing that The Cranberries have only gotten better with age. (Cat Emerson)
