"Duets II" is by the iconic jazz, showtunes and traditional pop singer Tony Bennett, whose legendary career has spanned over sixty fantastic years. This album marks him as the oldest living artist to debut at #1, and is released in tie with his 85th birthday. It is also the sequel album to his record "Duets: An American Classic", which was released in 2006 in conjunction with Bennett's 80th birthday.
Bennett possesses a classic singing voice that the modern generation of music artists lack, with clear cut distinction and soulful projection that does not waste with age. His singing technique and voice has taken inspiration from jazz singing for the most part, as well as popular music. He best became known in the earliest decades of his career, for songs such as "Because Of You", "Rags To Riches" and his most recognised and considered signature song "I Left My Heart In San Francisco".
This album of duets contains contributions from tremendous big name artists, such as Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Michael Bublé, John Mayer, and many more, performing iconic songs such as "The Lady Is A Tramp" and "The Way You Look Tonight"; keeping them traditonal, but with a contemporary twist.
This album also features the single "Body And Soul", a brilliant rendition performed with Amy Winehouse, which is thought to be her last recording before she passed away. As this album amply proves, classic songs stay classics for a reason, as do the people who sing them; Tony Bennett has only gotten better with age. (Cat Emerson)
