The Doctor Who which returned to television screens at the start of a new decade was the most radical departure in the show's history. A new dynamic Doctor in the shape of Jon Pertwee, a new companion with the brainy Cambridge physicist Liz Shaw joining, and a completely different style as the show featured only Earth-bound adventures with the Doctor exiled to Earth and unable to work his TARDIS, instead using an old yellow Edwardian roadster named Bessie to travel around in.
