Sheila Ashton still wants to divorce David and goes to see Peggy, the girl who had David's baby. David has his last bomber raid and then crashes his motor bike, ending up in hospital. Victory seems to be getting closer and Liverpool prepares for VE day. The Ashtons gather for the meeting of the board that will decide the future of Briggs and Son - and Edwin Ashton.
Thicker Than Water
Sheila seeks out Peggy, whose four-year-old daughter was fathered by David, to get some evidence of adultery to divorce David. Peggy is anxious that the past will catch up with her.
Breaking Point
David is nervous and on edge before his last bomber raid. He makes friends with fellow flyer Derek Robbins and his wife, Jill - perhaps getting too friendly with Jill.
The Lost Ones
David is in hospital with head injuries after his motor bike crash. John Porter is still re-living his war experiences and David feels depressed about the future, without wife or job.
The Sensible Thing
Sefton has almost clinched the sale of Briggs and Son and Edwin is shattered. David Ashton gets a new job and takes Sheila to see a new house. Sheila is wary.
Under New Management
It is 1945 and the General Election looms, with people torn between Churchill or a possible socialist society. John Porter meets Marjorie at Labour Party HQ and they canvass together.
