Bergman didn't often try his hand at comedy, but when he did the results were remarkably successful.
David is a gynaecologist who's involved with a young patient. His wife, Marianne, learns of this transgression and begins an affair with his best friend. They attempt a trial separation, however, an encounter upon a train bound for Copenhagen reminds them of the good times and the connection they have with each other.
Mirroring the star driven romantic comedies of the era, A Lesson in Love features themes of reconciliation and hope. The flirtatious spark between the central characters is a reminder of Bergman's remarkable skill as a dialogue writer and is evidence of the brilliance shown in his later films.
