Lyndhurst Does it Again
If you're a fan of Nicolas Lyndhurst then you are going to love this comedy. It's not your usual dysfunctional family, it kind of has a twist. Take out the mum and throw in the grandmother or in Nicolas Lyndurst's character case, the dreaded mother-in-law. Both Nicholas Lyndurst and Celia Imrie play off each other brilliantly. I couldn't see another pair working so well together in these roles. Lyndhurst plays a reformed drunk finally getting his life back on track only to be thrown into fatherhood again as his Ex wife leaves to go overseas to help flooded victims in Africa. His overbearing Mother-in-law (Celia Imrie) hates his guts and wants to make life as miserable as possible whilst they both try and look after two children - teenagers too. The plots are well designed and somehow you hate them and then you love them. There isn't really an annoying character throughout the series. The son, played by Ryan Sampson, makes for a funny, but kind of creepy character for a brother. His character is very reminiscent of the eldest son in the BBC My Family comedy and yet this show has ties to this series. So I would expect some similarities. The daughter is a typical teenage daughter worrying about boys and such. No one stands out as being over the top so each character is even quite believable. Give this one a go, I can guarantee you laugh a lot.
