Serialised since 1994, Azumi began life as a comic by Yu Koyama, its audacious style and extreme violence quickly earning it an avid following in Japan. In 2003, director Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus, Sky High) brought the comic to life in a high-octane movie adaptation, creating a dynamic new action heroine in the process.
Azumi (Aya Ueto) is a beautiful young girl, trained from childhood to become a fearless assassin. In the first film she comes of age, taking on a band of merciless warlords. Azumi 2: Death or Love picks up where is prequel left off, rejoining the heroine and her friend Nagara (Ishigaki Yuma from Battle Royale 2) as they wander feudal Japan. But Azumi's desire for a peaceful life is disrupted once again when she is enlisted by a lord to dispose of a rival official.
