    Description

    Release Date: 23 October 2006

This box set contains the three great British mystery films:

    The Quare Fellow:
The newly arrived prison warder, Thomas Crimmin (Patrick McGoohan), is convinced that capital punishment by the state is justified. A few days later, a quare fellow (condemned man) is due to be executed protesting his innocence. But his wife, Sylvia Syms, brings crucial new evidence to the prison governor's attention that could prove her husband's innocence. The finality of the death penalty forces Crimmin to question his deep beliefs and reassess the sanctity of human life.

    Violent Enemy:
During the troubles in Ireland an IRA bomb plot is hatched to blow up a British power station. Sean Rogan (Tom Bell) is an IRA bomb expert and escapes from prison to try and stop the destruction. This intelligent thriller with powerful performances from Tom Bell, Susan Hampshire and Ed Begley was one of the few movies to portray the inner motives of individuals fighting a common enemy. The film is adapted from the novel 'A Candle for the Dead' by Jack Higgins writing as Hugh Marlowe.

    Brass Monkey:
Based on an old British radio show, 'The Brass Monkey' is fast-paced British mystery and comedy thriller. Caroll Levis stars as a radio personality who attempts to prevent a connoisseur of Buddhist artifacts from stealing the priceless Brass Monkey. The film is littered with stars such as Herbert Lom, Avril Angers and Terry-Thomas, but it is perhaps most famous for being the swansong of the beautiful Carole Landis. She committed suicide soon after completing this film in a scandal that shook the film world.
