Biutiful is a dramatic tale of a dying man in free fall as he tries to piece together his out of control life before he dies. Uxbal (Javier Bardem) is a street-hustler from a ragged part of Barcelona where criminals rule the streets. Uxbal balances his work with organising immigrant labour, helping the bereaved cope with their grief, raising his children and looking after his unfaithful bipolar wife Maramba. Uxbal feels he has scores to settle before he dies in order to provide for his children’s future and ensure that they are safe. With his health becoming much worse he is now forced to battle his demons as he slowly begins to feel a connection with the afterlife as he draws nearer to death. Directed by Oscar nominee Alejandro González Iñárritu (21 Grams, Babel). (Matt Fairfield)
