Dr. Donald Newman takes over the running of the practice while Dr. Tom Gilder is in New Zealand making peace with his father, Arthur. Deborah Gilder helps him in the hope of fulfilling Tom's dream for a fine hospital and surgery as a sparkling example of the NHS.
Meanwhile, a new face arrives in the village in the form of Dr. Logan who is young, good-looking and over confident and has been drafted in to help test blood at the hospital.
