Roger Thursby, called to the Bar, takes his first step up the legal ladder - a precarious ladder as he soon discovers. With Roger we meet kindly or irascible judges, if they start as the former his inexperience has a way of turning them into the latter!
24 hours after being 'called' he is hurled into practice with busy Kendall Grimes QC who soon leaves him in charge of the case. Not even knowing which side he is on, Thursby falls in love with the young model upstairs and defends plausible scoundrel Alfred Green.
