    Description

    Release Date: 19 April 2004

This volume contains four of Chaplin's legendary early films as follows:-

    Dough And Dynamite:
Charlie and Chester are waiters, but when the employees of the adjoining bakery go on strike they are sent to man the ovens. They wallow in dough until the bakery is destroyed by dynamite which the strikers hid in a loaf of bread.

    In The Park:
It's spring and Charlie's thoughts are on love. After getting a lesson on love from a Frenchman, Charlie decides to test his technique on a nursemaid. Throughout attempting to woo the girl, Charlie is on an ongoing stealing match with a pick pocket... which Charlie eventually wins.

    The Tramp:
Charlie the tramp sits down to a roadside meal, but before he can get to it, a hobo creeps up and steals it, replacing his meal with a brick. This forces Charlie to dine on grass. Meanwhile, the hobo and his buddies accost a farm girl (Edna Purviance), but Charlie comes to the rescue by hurling the brick at them. The girl's father gives Charlie a job on the farm. Later, the hobos are back again trying to rob the farm and Charlie is yet again the hero but only after getting shot by the farmer. Charlie dreams of marrying the girl, but packs up and leaves when he discovers she already has a suitor.

    By The Sea:
Charlie wanders beside the seashore on the Crystal Pier. He bumps into a drunk and a struggle with their hats leads to a battle. Tired of fighting, they shake hands and have ice-cream cones but smear it all over each other in a fight over who will pay for them. Charlie ends up being pursued by the drunk and several other people, including the police, and is cornered on a park bench. But Charlie suddenly throws himself back against the back of the bench and knocks down everyone but himself and escapes.
