3 Classic Charles Dickens include:
Great Expectations (1946)
David Lean directed this stylish film presentation of Charles Dickens' heart warming story of a young man befriending an escaped convict who becomes his unknown benefactor, and of the consequences for the young man as he establishes himself in the world.
Oliver Twist
David Leans' atmospheric production remains the definitive version of the Charles Dickens masterpiece. Oliver Twist (John Howard Davis) is expelled from a harsh orphanage by the miserly Mr Bumble for daring to ask for more. After an unhappy apprenticeship to an undertaker, Oliver escapes to the foggy streets of London where he falls in with a group of thieves headed by the mercurial Fagin.
A Tale Of Two Cities
Bogarde is perfectly cast as Sydney Carlton in this masterly adaptation of Charles Dickens' renowned French Revolution epic. Faithfully adapted from the novel, the film follows the fortunes of Carlton whose world is turned upside down when events in France encroach on his decadent London life.
