A government treaty protecting sacred Comanche land is about to expire, opening the territory to fortune hunters and prospectors in search of silver buried beneath the ancient mountains. James Bowie (MacDonald Carey) has negotiated a legitimate deal with the Comanches for the silver, unaware the renewal letter for the treaty has been stolen. Bowie must locate the letter in order to secure his deal and stop the Indian territory from being pillaged. His search leads him to the small town of Crooked Tongue, run by the beautiful and feisty Katie Howard (Maureen O’Hara), who quickly becomes his number one suspect.
