Set in the French-African colony of Senegal in 1938, Coup de Torchon is a gripping French Noir starring Philippe Noiret and Isabelle Huppert. Noiret is the unremarkable village policeman, Lucien Cordier, who is a source of amusement to all those around him, including his wife and his superiors at work.
Happy to turn a blind eye when required, Cordier is unambitious and quiet-living - until one day he decides to take action. Becoming a Machiavellian avenging angel, he begins to execute his own brand of vigilante justice.
