Firestarter, the best-seller by top writer Stephen King, came blazing to the screen in a $15 million saga, produced by Dino De Laurentis. Eight year-old Drew Barrymore, who won America's heart in E.T. - The Extra-Terrestrial, stars as the child who has the amazing ability to start fires with just a glance. But can this power and the love of her father save her from the sinister government agency.. 'The Shop', which wants her destroyed? The top-notch story, an all-star cast that includes George C. Scott, Martin sheen, Louise Fletcher, Art Carney, David Keith and Heather Locklear, plus amazing special effects and stunts from the masters who worked on Star Wars, E.T. - The extra-Terrestrial, and Raiders Of The Lost Ark, make Firestarter a classic 80s horror movie. The difference is, that this film has a brain. If you haven't seen it, it is a must for any horror movie fan.
A government scientific experiment has produced unexpected results and now the last remaining victim and his young daughter are on the run. Their only defence is the psychic powers granted them by the experiment. The father has limited mind-control powers, but his daughter (Drew Barrymore), whose mother was also a psychic, has tremendous powers over fire. This is a great thriller/horror with incredible special effects, a tight, well-written script and a bunch of well performed characters. Drew Barrymore shows her talent at a very young age, capturing the innocence and vulnerability of the character. The tragedy is also well displayed by all the actors in this movie.
