Carter Kranz arrives in Blackpool to avenge the death of his mother. Without a penny to his name, he carries only a fragment of paper containing the words 'Ambrose Chapel'. Also in town are the Suttons, Dudley and Lola, hoping a dirty weekend at the Shangri-la Guesthouse will spice up their marriage. They are about to find themselves caught in a nightmare rollercoaster ride driven by the dysfunctional Woolf family.

The Woolfs are at the heart of everything that happens in Blackpool. There's Shirley Woolf, a nightclub owner and borderline psycho; his foolhardy wife Connie and his mother, the evil and manipulative Mercy, a vicious matriarch who runs every racket in town: protection, intimidation and extortion.
