An exotic British thriller adapted from the best selling novel by Victor Canning and directed by Ronald Neame (The Poseidon Adventure). Trevor Howard (Brief Encounter, The Third Man) stars as archaeologist David Redfern, a man who has been dispatched to a small North African town to recover priceless artefacts and finds himself in deep trouble when he stumbles on a sinister smuggling racket.
Not wanting any trouble Redfern keeps quiet when he discovers a gang of gun runners led by Rankl (Herbert Lom) who drinks in a café with Agno (Wilfrid Hyde-White) and Douvet (Miles Malleson). The café is run by beautiful French émigré Anna (Anouk Aimee - Lola, La Dolce Vita) and when Redfern falls in love with Anna Redfern he realises that he must act, but fails to realise how dangerous his opponents really are.
