As part of the French New Wave explosion of young, energetic , brave and brilliant directors, Alain Cavalier (La Vie de Chateau) fashioned a superb story of love, loyalty and betrayal with a backdrop of political upheaval.
Clement (Jean-Louis Trintignant) is part of a right wing political movement and although monied and comfortable, he is an active terrorist.
Betrayed by a comrade he takes his wife Anne (Romy Schneider) and seeks refuge in friend Paul's house. Once he discovers the identity of the man who betrayed him he sets out to take revenge.
Complications arise when Anne makes her feelings for Paul known.
Wonderful performances, a great script co-written by Cavalier and Jean-Paul Rappeneau (Cyrano de Bergerac) and directed with passion flair and skill by Cavalier.
