The Marx Brothers' story begins in 1884 when their mother Minnie, a German immigrant then aged 20, married their father Simon "Sam" Marx, who had moved to New York from Alsace, France. Minnie and Simon Marx's first child, Manfred, was born in 1885 but died before the age of three. It was to be their other children who were to make their mark on the world of comedy - Chico born in 1887, Harpo a year later in 1888, Groucho in 1892, and Zeppo in 1901. This programme takes an affectionate look at the brothers and their careers.
