As an ocean liner prepares to set sail, its spiv-like steward, Albert Higgins (Ronald Shiner), is given the task of training a new recruit: the hapless and hopeless Cecil Hollebone (Brian Rix). As Shiner extracts every last penny from the passengers with his cockney charm, Rix's ineptitude incurs the wrath of the Chief Steward (Michael Brennan). But when the villainous Guy Harding (Griffith Jones) and Julie Hains (Katie Boyle) steal one of the passenger's priceless diamonds, the duo have to prove their innocence in a series of comic escapades which ends with Brian Rix inevitably losing his trousers!
