Penny Serenade:
When newspaperman Roger Adams (Cary Grant) falls for record store sales girl Julie Gardiner Adams (Irene Dunne), their whirlwind courtship does not prepare him for the life of laughter, romance and tragedy that follows. He must learn the value of true love, or face failure like he's never known. The story is told in a series of flashbacks, each introduced by a piece of music from Julie's record collection. Cary Grant's performance earned him an Oscar Nomination for Best Actor.
His Girl Friday:
Walter Burns (Cary Grant), editor of the Chicago Morning Post, is about to lose his ace reporter and former wife, Hildy Johnson (Rosalind Russell), to Insurance salesman Bruce Baldwin (Ralph Bellamy), but not without a fight! The crafty editor uses every trick in his cap to get Hildy to write one last big story, about murderer Earl Williams and the inept Sheriff Hartwell. The comedy snowballs as Williams' friend, Molly Malloy, the crooked Mayor, and Bruce's mother all get tied up in Walter's web. This Howard Hawks comedy is undoubtedly Cary Grant's greatest comedic role, proving once again the amazing versatility of this Hollywood legend.
