Torn between his wife (Emmanuelle Devos) and his young girlfriend (Ludivine Sagnier), and with his communist political beliefs battered by the winds of history, journalist Bruno (Daniel Auteuil) has lost his way in the world. After responding to a call for help from his uncle, who is fighting a losing battle for re-election as the mayor of a small town near Grenoble, Bruno gets lost driving through a dark forest. Seeking help he encounters the icily enigmatic Beatrice (Kristin Scott Thomas) and soon Bruno's tangled life becomes even more complex. Pascale Bonitzer's stylish and witty drama features faultless performances from an outstanding cast, particularly Daniel Auteuil and Kristin Scott Thomas in the leading roles.
