Recruited by an inept mob of vigilantes, Kleinman (Allen), a cowardly clerk, is forced to search for a notorious murderer - only to stumble upon a feisty sword-swallower, Irmy (Farrow), running away from the circus, and her 'clownish' boyfriend (Malkovich).
