Sid James plays the part of George The Brain, leader of an inept gang of bank robbers in The Big Job (1965). The gang get caught and sentenced for 15 years. When the gang are released they attempt to retrieve the money they had stolen: the problem is that they hid it in a hollow tree that is now in the backyard of a police station!
In Make Mine A Million (1959), Sid Gibson (Sid James) is a powder salesman who decides to make his millions he needs to promote himself on TV. The only problem is that he has no money to fund anything so he calls upon a friend who arranges an outrageous plug for him on a live TV show. The public go crazy for the product but to maintain sales Sid must arrange even more outrageous TV plugs.
The final and perhaps most renowned film in the boxset is The Lavender Hill Mob (1951). Holland (Alec Guinness), is a shy retiring man who works as a bank transfer agent for the delivery of gold bullion. He befriends Pendlebury (Stanley Holloway), a maker of souvenirs, and suggests that together they could forge the gold into toy Eiffel Towers and smuggle the gold into France. Soon after, they gain the services of professional criminals Lackery (Sid James) and Shorty (Alfie Bass) and the four plot their crime, unaware of the pitfalls which lie ahead.
