A beautiful Parisian school teacher, arriving at her new post in the dark forests of Eastern Europe, is persuaded to stay at the castle of the mysterious Baroness Meinster.
On her first unnerving night, she discovers the Baroness's shamed son - imprisoned and shackled to the wall in a distant wing of the castle. Sympathectially, she frees him , unwittingly releasing the evil of a hundred generations of vampires eager to seek vengeance against all who stand in their way.
With the townsfolk at their mercy, only Dr Van Helsing (Peter Cushing) can stop the vampires and their torrent of evil before the it engulfs the countryside.
With classic scares, pointed teeth and wooden stakes abounding, this classic Hammer Horror is truly one of a kind.

hammer at its best
This film is classic hammer horror, with Peter Cushing reprising his role of Van Helsing, it never fails to deliver. What fans of classic hammer films expect to see. While there is no Christopher Lee this time around, the baroness meinster and her son bring an air of foreboding and menace to the screen, with the son being a suitable villian for Van Helsing, all leading to a tense and exciting finale that sees Van Helsing almost becoming that which he is sworn to destroy and a windmill scene that stays with you long after the film is over. All in all a truly enjoyable hammer horror classic.
