The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin
Quite simply one of the greatest comic performances of all time. Rossiter captures the frustration and ennui of everyday suburban life in the Britain of the 1970s. It also questions the importance of the everyday things we take for granted. His gradual slide into 'comic madness', aided in no small part by his domineering boss CJ, his longing for a sexual liaison with his secretary Joan and the monotony of his daily commute into the City. This series says so much about the futility of ambition, the hopelessness of routine and one man's desire to start his life again.
