This cracking Film Noir still lives up to that illustrious cast. Dan Brady (Mickey Rooney – National Velvet, Girl Crazy) is a struggling garage mechanic who fancies himself a ladies' man. Ignoring 'nice' girl Helen (Barbara Bates), he casts his eye at waitress Vera Novak (Jeanne Cagney – Yankee Doodle Dandy). To impress Vera, Dan 'borrows' a twenty from the till of his tight-fisted boss Mackey (Art Smith), intending to replace it the next day. All goes well until Mackey's accountant shows up to check the cash register. Panicked, Dan cannot replace the money he owes: he needs a plan. Dan’s life spirals out of control as he is immersed in the quicksand of a life of crime.
