The Message
It is the 7th century and in Mecca, where powerful leaders are in conflict with Mohammed who attacks the many injustices their way of life produces - slavery, drunkeness and cruelty. Mohammed claims to have seen a vision of the Angel Gabriel and calls to the people of Mecca to worship one God only.
After a revelation from God, Mohammed agrees to tackle arms against Mecca and at the Wells of Bedr the inexperienced Moslem troops are victorious. However, at the Battle of Uhud they are beaten. They accept a ten year truce, so that they can continue to spread the word of God.
Mohammad is the prophet...The Messenger of God.
Lion Of The Desert
The year is 1929 and dictator Benito Mussolini is still faced with the 20-year long war waged by Bedouin patriots to combat Italian colonisation and the establishment of "The Fourth Shore" - re-birth of a Roman Empire in Africa.
Mussolini appoints General Rodolfo Graziani as his sixth governor to Libya, confident that the eminently accredited soldier can crush the rebellion and restore the dissipated glories of Imperial Rome.
Inspirational in the resistance towards the oppressors is the leadership of one man - Omar Mukhtar. A teacher by profession, guerrilla by obligation, Mukhtar has committed himself to a war that cannot be won in his own lifetime. Arrogant Imperialist - ideological visionary - the conflict is between two implacable enemies. Graziani controls North Africa with the might of the Italian Army, Tanks and airplanes are used in the desert for the first time.
Despite mindless bravery, the Bedouin suffer crippling losses, their primitive weaponry no match for mechanised warfare. And still they strike back...
