Set in the Midlands of Victorian England, The Rainbow tells the story of a rebellious young woman (Davis) who after defying her parents and society's morality, engages in an unbridled and passionate affair first with her beautiful school teacher (Donohoe), Then with a fascinating young soldier (McGann), before setting out on her own to capture the fuller sensuality of life itself.
