The World at War: The Ultimate Restored Edition is the definitive version of one of the greatest documentary series ever made. Each frame has been painstakingly restored and the audio enhanced and upgraded so that this is the best this award-winning series has ever looked and sounded.
Narrated by Laurence Olivier and first broadcast in 1973 when memories of the Second World War were still clear in people's minds and the war's veterans numerous, over 26 episodes this unique series assembled these recollections, together with archive footage, to create one of the most powerful and successful historical documentaries ever seen. The voices of those that fought, worked or watched during the war gave each episode a vivid sense of what it was like to be there and was the hallmark of the series.

Great Purchase
I was a bit apprehensive about this d.v.d as I had read so many bad reviews saying it was not as good as the original. I ordered it and I am very pleased with the quality of the picture and the sound. I have wanted this series for a long time as it tells the true story of the wars and it will be helpful for my son who is doing History at University. I have only watched one of the disks at the moment but I shall be watching the rest in time.

same but better
As anybody familiar with the series knows, it is one of the best World War II docs ever made. Now digitally remastered the picture and sound are excellent, much better than I remember in History at school on VHS! An excellent presentation, including informative documentaries on how it has been cleaned up.

In the top tier of Best Documentaries ever
This remastered dvd version of The World At War must be one of the best documentary boxsets ever. No matter how many times you watch the episodes, it never gets boring. You can never take everything on board in one go and so repeated viewing is a must. Now I can go over them in my own time.

World at War - Brilliant
The subject matter of The World At War doesn't make for easy viewing but it is essential for anyone wanting or needing a perspective into the historical background. Much of it is heartrending but it is important not to gloss over these sort of issues. It goes without saying that the quality of the narration by Laurence Olivier is superb and probably couldn't have been matched by anyone else let alone bettered.
