Disillusioned school teacher Kieran Johnson (James Caan - Mickey Blue Eyes) finds a much-needed reason for a vacation when, rummaging through an old trunk in the attic, he comes across a 50-year old photograph of his mother clinging to a strapping young man. The faded words on the back of the photo read 'To Fiona, the loveliest of all the lasses. I would love to be your man'.
And so begins Kieran's quest to discover his family's Irish heritage. Travelling to his family's hometown in Ireland he finds a couple around the same age as his mother. After showing them the photograph he found, they begin to tell him the fascinating, romantic and ultimately tragic story of his mother's relationship with his long-lost father.
