Mattie Ross (Kim Darby) is a young, helpless tomboy whose father has been murdered. She wants vengeance, and she tracks down a tough old marshal named ‘Rooster’ Cogburn (John Wayne) as she believes he can help by finding the murderer and showing his ‘True Grit’.

Rooster has a reputation for getting the job done and enlists help from La Boeuf (Glen Campbell), a Texas ranger who is searching for the same man for another murder.

Together all three trek around the country to find the murderous foe and travel through Fort Smith, Arkansas and even deep into Indian territory to find their man.

One of The Best Western Movies Ever Made!

This movie excels in several aspects. First, it's John Wayne. He won an Oscar for his performance in this movie. He is serious, but sometimes funny. Second, Kim Darby as Mattie Ross also excellent in her acting. I never know her before. But she is so impressive since her first appearance. She is like a tomboy. I wonder why she didn't get an Oscar for her performance. Third, the story is so simple and easy to follows. Not so complicated. The plot and conflict run well and smoothly. I'll not tell the story here. But for sure, it's suitable to watch by the whole family members. Forth, it's directed by Henry Hathaway who give you How The West Was Won, Nevada Smith and other excellent western movies. And it's a classic western! I prefer this one than the 2010 version.
