Susan Wilson, her husband Gary, and their two children, move into their dream home in a quiet small town. They are delighted with their new life, except for their neighbour, respected church deacon Steve Glover, a nuisance who offers unwanted help around the house and seems to follow Susan wherever she goes.

When she confides her concerns to her girlfriends, they agree to help her search the Glovers' home for evidence. They find videotapes of Susan and Gary in their most intimate moments. Devastated by the invasion of their privacy, Susan suffers psychological trauma.

Gary confronts Steve and convinces him to turn himself in, but the nightmare really begins when the district attorney informs Susan that there is no law protecting people from being secretly videotaped, even in their own homes. Susan decides she must go public to raise awareness of the need to change the outmoded laws, no matter how painful and embarrassing it may be.
