Taking Elizabeth's great love affair with Robert Dudley (Tom Hardy) as its central theme, The Virgin Queen is both an intense love story and dramatic portrayal of a piece of history detailing all the key events of her reign and her personal struggle to balance her personal feelings with the rigors of the monarchy.
